Scott

Scott was a young grocery store employee with his whole life ahead of him, until a car accident left him totally paralyzed. Luckily, his Illinois Mutual agent talked to him about disability insurance just a few days prior and he purchased a policy.

L&K Insurance has several field agents that service grocery store employees. One such employee, Scott, was finishing his shift one day and spoke with agent David Laing about disability insurance. David explained to Scott that no matter what type of insurance he had, everything really depends on his ability to earn an income. David then told Scott how much it would cost, and he was surprised at the small amount. Seeing its value and affordability, Scott completed the Illinois Mutual DI application. On his way home, Scott felt good knowing that he was taking a step toward securing his future and felt confident in having Illinois Mutual behind his policy. Not long after their meeting, David received a phone call from Scott's family saying he was seriously hurt in a car accident.

As a result of spinal cord injuries, Scott's lower extremities were totally paralyzed. It was hard to believe that the young man David had just met, was now in such a situation. Although devastated by his news, David found relief in knowing that Scott's DI policy would help him through the times that lie ahead. He hates to think about how Scott's future would be different if they hadn't talked about DI that day and applauds Scott's good judgment in wanting to protect his income. David only wishes other young people had the willingness to learn about DI and the foresight to think about their future.
