Empowering Dreams

Dreams. Every one of us has dreams, hopes and aspirations for ourselves and those we love. My dad used to say even though we may have different backgrounds and lives, that's one area in which we are all alike. One of the things that is most fulfilling for me personally is knowing our products help to empower dreams in the event policyowners are unable to fulfill them.

We often hear that our service is differentiated. It’s because our Company objectives are different than many. We never lose sight of the fact that we are an organization about people and serving them. I am so proud of our team and our work to take care of the needs of our policyowners from new products to processing claims. We recognize that our agents are a crucial part of our continued success. Our agents see that Illinois Mutual is still the company that is going to work hard for them, stand with them and give them personalized service and training to further their success.

2018 was an exciting year. We enhanced our product offerings with the launch of new term life products designed utilizing research to gain a deep understanding about the needs of our policyowners and agents. As a result, we now offer something rare in our industry: To Age 65 term and To Age 70 term.

Financially, 2018 was a record-breaking year with the highest ever year end capital and surplus. Our total invested assets and total assets were at the highest ever level in history, also. We are once again proud to celebrate an A- (Excellent) Financial Strength Rating from A.M. Best. This strong financial foundation reaffirms the trust policyowners and agents have placed with us.

In 2019, we will continue to challenge ourselves to ensure that what makes us different—our admiration for our policyowners, agents and employees—is a part of everything we do. I’m truly excited to see things come to fruition in 2019 that are the result of all of the great behind-the-scenes foundational work that was done in 2018. Great things are ahead!

Protecting Dreams

We recognize the purchase of our products is symbolic of the devotion our policyowners have to the future of their loved ones. Chairperson Katie McCord Jenkins said helping to fulfill those promises is what motivates the Illinois Mutual team. Senior Web and Graphic Designer Adam Gierhart takes pride in that steadfastness. “Illinois Mutual is a company that fulfills the commitment that we put forward to our policyowners, to our agents. We’re there with them from issue through the life of the policy.”

For Illinois Mutual agents it’s also not just about the transaction, it’s about building relationships. “My favorite part of the job is just sitting down with families and being able to connect with them,” said agent Leesa Christenson. “I just know that I am helping them with protecting their future, protecting their loved ones.”

Dreams for the Future

With the excitement of welcoming a baby came a focus on the future for Shane and Brittney Jung. As with all new parents, they had a dramatic shift in priorities.

“My promise to my family is to be there to still help them even though I’m not,” said Shane. Important to Brittney is, “not having to worry that Shane is going to be struggling to pay the bills or anything when I’m gone.”

Their Illinois Mutual agent, Leesa Christenson, enjoys building relationships with people like the Jungs who are focused on the future. She worked with them to make sure basics—like mortgage and food—and dreams like their daughter’s education—are covered in the event of the unexpected. “Life insurance leaves a legacy for you to go on,” Christenson said, adding it is much less expensive than most people realize.

Safeguarding Dreams for a Family

Safeguarding Dreams for a Family

As an attorney who owns his own practice, James G. Andary II knows disability income insurance is critical to protecting his family’s financial security. “My entire family depends on me,” he said. “If I’m unable to work, I don’t have any other income. I’m able to rest a lot easier knowing that I have this, and it’s a great product.”

One of the most appealing aspects for Andary was the Return of Premium Rider. His agent, Gary Schwarze, said the rider enables policyowners at a certain age to get back all of their premiums minus any claims. Schwarze is committed to honoring his clients’ dreams. “Without disability insurance, your whole financial picture could crumble,” he said.

Investing in Employees’ Dreams

Creative Pool Builders owner Stephen Wright sees offering worksite products as part of retaining and standing by his employees. “If something happened to one of them, it would be horrendous if they lost their salary. They have homes, families and responsibilities.”

Wright says he feels secure with Illinois Mutual products. “I actually asked my agent to get me the best company that I could trust.” Knowing the way that he cares about his employees, many of whom are his family members, agent Caroline Wright felt a long-standing, family oriented company with products that can be tailored to the needs of the business owner was a good match.

Preserving Dreams Together

Our goal is to work with agents who value service and relationships just like we do. Together, we collaborate to honor the commitment our policyowners have made to their loved ones.

Agent Leesa Christenson appreciates the compassionate way claims are processed at Illinois Mutual. “When I turn in the death claims they are handled in a very prompt and fast manner,” she said.

Agent Gary Schwarze agreed. “Their claims people are exceptional. Their policy service is unmatched.”

Our agents tell us they value training and service. “My relationship with Illinois Mutual has been nothing but positive,” said agent Caroline Wright. “They’re always a phone call away. Someone is always there to answer my questions.”
