New Simplified Issue Whole Life Available Now!

Message from the President & Chairperson

The first part of 2022 may be behind us, but Illinois Mutual isn’t slowing down. As a business, we are always looking for ways we can think outside the box and enhance our products as an insurance carrier. I know you, too, are constantly keeping your eyes open for opportunities to continue serving your clients while engaging with new audiences. This quarter, I believe we’ll be able to work together to make our goals a reality.

I’m excited by the recent launch of our new Simplified Issue Whole Life (SIWL) product. With its simplified underwriting and wider range of coverage, the Illinois Mutual team has fine-tuned this offering to help us serve a new target market with the flexibility our portfolio is known for. This product provides you with a significant opportunity to both attract new policyowners and cross sell to current clients. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Sales team to learn more about SIWL, how it can stand alone or alongside other insurance products, and the process of incorporating it into your book of business.

It’s also that time again for Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM), which comes around every September. At Illinois Mutual, we love to use this event as an opportunity to reaffirm to our policyowners the value of life insurance as they plan their futures and those of their loved ones. With SIWL newly added to our portfolio, you now have one more product at the ready to help you celebrate LIAM along with us, showing your clients their many options for preserving their financial security.

The partnership between Illinois Mutual and our independent agents is essential to keeping policyowners financially protected through all we have to offer. Thank you for all that you do, and I look forward to seeing the success this quarter of 2022 will bring.

Our new Simplified Issue Whole Life (SIWL)is here!

SIWL allows for lower minimum face amounts of life insurance coverage – between $5,000 and $50,000. This product is targeted for your prospects between the ages of 45 and 85 who want to help ensure their surviving loved ones won’t be financially burdened by their death. Premiums are guaranteed never to increase, and the policy will be in force as long as premiums are paid.

SIWL allows you the opportunity to offer benefits to potential clients who might otherwise not be able to obtain affordable coverage due to age or medical history. Plus, simple health questions make it easy to apply, opening the door to faster underwriting decisions.

It’s Life Insurance Awareness Month!

Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM)* is is an educational campaign by Life Happens that occurs each September to help spread awareness of the importance of life insurance.

You can use this heightened awareness and the evergreen sales materials we offer to help your clients get covered starting now, throughout September, and beyond.

Our Planning Guide (A5701) and corresponding Resource Guide (A5700) can help you personalize a marketing campaign to spread the word about the importance of life insurance. The Resource Guide lists marketing tools — from stuffers and pre-approach letters to downloadable flyers and social media posts — to help expand your reach to prospects and clients.

Help Combat Insurance Fraud

You do your best to serve hardworking individuals who want to safeguard themselves and their families with insurance protection. And our goal is to provide products that help meet their needs at prices they can afford.

One way you can help us achieve this goal is by helping us combat insurance fraud, which is costly to the industry, and in turn, leads to higher costs for consumers.

Recently Illinois Mutual’s Home Office employees took part in our ninth annual Compliance Awareness Week. This year’s theme – “CLUE into Fraud” – focused on preventing, detecting and reporting suspected fraud.

Here are six potential red flags of insurance fraud at the time of application that you, as an agent in the field, should keep in mind:

  1. The applicant is in a hurry for coverage to take effect.
  2. The applicant asks hypothetical questions about coverage in the event of a loss.
  3. The applicant wants to pay the premium in cash or by money order.
  4. The applicant is reluctant to answer application questions or submit to a telephone interview.
  5. The applicant’s health history seems unusually brief given his or her age or obvious physical impairments.
  6. The applicant seems unusually familiar with insurance terminology or asks specific questions related to claims procedures.

This is not a comprehensive list, but we hope it provides food for thought. We understand that sometimes red flags have legitimate explanations – we just want you to be alert to situations that may merit further investigation.

Also, after a policy has been issued, be sure to inform our Claims department if you suspect a policyowner has not truthfully reported an incident or condition in an attempt to be paid for a loss that is not covered by the policy.

Remember, in many states, any person who knowingly engages in insurance fraud, or has knowledge or reasonable belief that a fraudulent insurance act is being committed, may face criminal penalties.
