Protecting employees with worksite voluntary benefits

John and Sarah Darrohn, of Darrohn Engineering, explain some key coverage options their Illinois Mutual agent helped them offer their employees.

We are a very small civil engineering firm in Greenville. We're always trying to find a way to do high quality design and know that it has purpose and usefulness for the end user. I do believe we are becoming market leaders, and I think that's because of our staff. You know, we wouldn't be here without having our team in place. They’re one of our greatest assets.

I had short term disability at my previous employer, and we used that when we had our first child. And, we quickly saw the benefit of having that coverage. And so, we wanted to provide that to our employees and give them that peace of mind—not just for maternity leave, but for anything else unforeseen that may keep them out of work. You know, we want to do that: we want to do what's best for our employees.

Our financial advisor, he had some previous experience working with Illinois Mutual and recommended that we get a policy set up. I felt like the cost of the premiums were very reasonable. As a small business, there are oftentimes difficulties in being able to acquire and provide an insurance coverage when you have very few employees. It's very important. And, knowing that there are companies like Illinois Mutual out there that would be willing to work with small firms such as ours—it's critical, and we're happy to have that.

I know that if we need to contact Illinois Mutual, they'd be easy to get in touch with and very responsive. So far, our relationship in working with Illinois Mutual has been seamless. We see no reason why we wouldn't recommend Illinois Mutual for other small businesses like ours.
